Taper & reference jig

April 10th, 2024

When you’re working with rough stock or plywood that doesn’t have a straight edge, it can be dangerous to run it against the table saw fence. This simple, reference edge jig solves that problem by giving you an edge that rides against the fence.  The board with uneven faces gets clamped to the jig.  It also allows you to cut cupped or twisted stock safely, cradling it as it passes over the blade.

As a bonus, this jig also works very well as a tapering jig, allowing you to create tapers with very minimal setup. It’s made to be easily built with basic materials and limited tools (you need only one power tool, the saw), making it extremely accessible.
